The Hobart Cavy Club is a common interest community group for people who are interested in the breeding and showing of Cavies ( guinea pigs ) We cater to adults and children alike with a multitude of both pet and pedigree classes. The Hobart Cavy Club has been in existence for over 30 years first starting many years ago as the Van Diemen Cavy Club. There are many and varying breeds of cavy these days with over 40 recognised breed standards all of which originated from the original agouti colourings of the wild cavy. So if you have a cavy or think that maybe a cavy would be an ideal pet for you and you want to find out more please feel free to ring Michael on 0420 205 274. The Club has monthly shows held at the Royal Hobart Showgrounds and all are welcome to attend these events.
Cavies are unique in the fact that their offspring are born fully furred and eyes open and are mobile within a few hours of being born. Quite like minitures of their parents, they are very cute. Within a day or two they will be scampering around and having a nibble on some solid food as their parents would be.
This month's Show is to be held on Saturday the 28th of October 2006 and is the Royal Hobart Show. Unfortunately it is too late to enter. Show starts at 9am. The show is to be held in the Cat Pavillion of the Royal Hobart Showgrounds, there will be a substansial display of Guinea Pigs on Friday the 27th and is open to the public. Would all exhibitors please forward their entry form to Emily the Show Secretary by post or please e-mail them to emily.vince@education.tas.gov.au before the Wednesday previous to the Show.
